Dual Marker KRYPTOR
Dual Marker KRYPTOR
The double marker test is one of the popular tests performed during pregnancy for screening the individual risks of chromosomal abnormalities in the foetus. It is a vital test performed for the early detection of Down’s syndrome or other genetic abnormalities in the foetus. It is necessary test for mothers above 35 years of age, and those with history of Down’s syndrome, Trisomy 18 or any other genetic issues in the family.
This test is performed in the first trimester between 10 to 14 weeks of gestation using blood sample and ultrasound. It tests FREE B-hCG and PAPPA levels in the blood. The readings are then combined with the NT and CRL values of the ultrasound scan to produce the risk score from an analysis software.
There are a plethora of platforms available for such biochemical screening and risk assessments. However, the BRAHMS Kryptor platform is the best in class equipment to perform this test and has been adopted by many diagnostic centres across the world. It is one of the most reliable first trimester screening tests for the following reasons:
- It has been awarded the Nobel Prize for its TRACE (Time?Resolved Amplified Cryptate Emission) technology which enables very precise measurement of the analytes. TRACE is based on the works of JeanMarie Lehn, a French chemist, who was also awarded the Nobel Prize for this technique in 1987
- It is a fully automated immunoanalyzer requiring minimum human intervention which makes it less prone to errors and manipulations in the processing of the analytes. The device also has the capability to initiate automatic dilution and rerun of samples in case the results are out of the linear range. In case of any issues related to controls and calibrations, the machine gives an alarm and stops the processing until the issue is resolved. These capabilities ensure that the system will give only the right results every time1.
- It has the lowest coefficient of variation (CV)which indicates that the data is highly reliable. It is for this reason that the targets of any specific data of the study are not missed thereby preventing any incorrect results or conclusion. The CV values of BRAHMS Kryptor is 33.2% thereby ensuring excellent and accurate reproducibility and quality of the results.
- There is growing evidence that high levels of biotin in the patient’s blood or other samples can cause clinically significant incorrect results. That’s why the TRACE technology used in Kryptor is made independent of the biotinstreptavidin binding. This makes it biotin interference free thereby giving the most accurate results for the patients.
- This device and system has been approved by FMF, an Organization promoting research and training in foetal medicines across the world.
- Its quality has been assessed thoroughly by many global organizations and has been found to be the best in class.
- It also has a vast evaluation database which helps to improve its performance and fine tune the risks scores thereby producing still better results.
It is for the reasons mentioned above that Kryptor is the first choice for performing a dual marker test and should be adopted by every medical institute.
